Thereheiz continued his great 2nd up record when he won the Benchmark 63 Handicap over 1200 metres at Canberra today. Thereheiz was a dual acceptor at Canterbury and at Canberra, but the connections opted to have him start at his home track in Canberra and he rewarded them with an all-the-way victory. He has now had five 2nd up runs for four wins and a third. Racing in the Canberra Racing Club colours rather than his usual Merimbula Bay silks, Thereheiz was driven from the barrier by Nick Souquet and got a nice run in front. On straightening, Nick found the right part of the track and Thereheiz fought on very strongly to win by three-quarters of a length. He will now head to the Wagga carnival for a race on Wagga Cup Day. The JJR stable had a good day with Thereheiz winning, Fast And Thorny running a very good and unlucky second and Gorgeous Amelia finding some form to finish third. |
